Convert Granulated Sugar — Cups, Grams & Ounces
A US cup of granulated sugar (also called white sugar) weighs 200 g. Working back the other way, 100 g is about 1/2 cup and 250 g is about 1 1/4 cups. Use the calculator for any amount in between.
💡 Tip: Granulated sugar weighs about 200 g per cup. It swaps 1:1 by weight with caster (superfine) sugar; caster just dissolves faster.

White sugar weights: cups, tablespoons and teaspoons
Granulated sugar is the easy one to convert because the numbers are round: 1 cup is 200g, so ½ cup is 100g and ¼ cup is 50g. A tablespoon is about 12.5g and a teaspoon about 4.2g.
Need caster or superfine sugar instead? It is the same sugar milled finer, so use the same weights — 1:1 — and it will simply dissolve a little quicker into batters and meringues.

Is granulated sugar heavy or light for its category?
200 g per cup places granulated sugar in the middle of its category — lighter than brown sugar (packed) (220 g) and heavier than allulose (160 g).
It weighs the same per cup as demerara sugar (200 g), so those two swap one-for-one whether you measure by cup or by scale.
